PSHCE

At St Joseph’s we recognise the value is developing the whole person and recognise the value of Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE). We have developed our own bespoke PSHCE curriculum which aims to develop the personal and social skills that are fundamental in the development of a happy, healthy, purposeful life and positive citizenship.

Through the PSHCE curriculum, Children learn about:

  • Families and people that care for me
  • Healthy living/physical wellbeing
  • Being Safe
  • Mental Wellbeing
  • Online Relationships
  • Respectful Relationships
  • Caring Friendships
  • First Aid
  • Economic wellbeing and financial capability.

This is a whole school approach which involves discussion, team work, circle time and individual reflection.

Sex/Relationships Education

The children’s sex education is based on Christian Principles and is related to their stage of development as they progress through the school. Sex/Relationships Education links to our curriculum for science, Personal Health Social Citizenship Education (P.H.S.C.E.) and R.E.

In Year 5 & 6 the children receive information about puberty, which is taught by school staff.  Parents are invited to discuss the programme with us and have the right to withdraw their child is they so wish.
